"Look at that big mint!"

After dropping Eleanor off at school, I needed to kill some time before your music class so I ran to Safeway and as we were parking you said "Look at that big mint!"

I was very confused until we walked closer to the entrance and you pointed and said "Mint up there" :)

I love the way you make me laugh - every day!

Emmett-isms

Age 2 is pretty fun so far.  You potty trained yourself just a week and a half after you turned 2.  You decided you didn't want to sleep in diapers anymore so Daddy and I tried it and didn't put them on the next week either.

We assumed it was just a lucky phase, but that we would eventually return to diapers.  It's been over a month so I think you are proving us wrong.

My favorite Emmett-isms right now:

"Trucks, I luuuuvvve it."  I played no part in encouraging a love of trucks, but your love for construction toys and spotting tractors is undeniable!

"Promise the train" instead of Thomas.  :)

"eyebrowns" instead of eyebrows

You are a nonstop chatterbox, mima bird (sp?) right now and while fun it can be exhausting!  Eleanor and I get tired of your chatter in the car, but you never quit despite us asking!  Today is Eleanor's first day away at camp and she is really looking forward to a break from her brother ;). She and I both love you more than words however!

Love you little dude!

Colors, numbers and many words...

Hey Buddy,

Just wanted to let you know you've really started recongnizing your numbers and letters and saying all types of words. You don't know a 1 from a 3 yet, but you know they are numbers. You don't know an A from a B, but you seem to know they are numbers. You get your basic colors right most of the time. You really seem to like the word Yellow, which seems to be your go to color when you are trying to point out a color. :)

Every night when I read to you, you always point out colors or if there is a number you say "2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3".

You've also started saying "thank you" which sounds more like "tink you momma" it's adorable.

You've also started saying "Sophie" pretty clearly now too.

I love seeing you grow up little guy! You give me great big hugs when I come home these days and it completely wipes away my stresses. Thanks!!

Love you!

Daddy

Trucks...

Hey Little Guy,

Lately you've taken to Eleanor's School bus and any other truck you can find and are "vrooming" it loudly around the house. I remember Eleanor playing with the cars a truck a bit, but I don't recall it being the magnitude at which you are. It's fun to see you grow and show more and more of your personality.

Additionally, your hair right now is a bundle of curls that your mom and I just can't get the nerve to cut off yet. You've got a bit of a mullet going on, but we love it!

Love you!

Becoming a little person

Hey Buddy,

You're definitely becoming a little person these days. It's fun because I can converse with you like a regular person and you pretty much know what I'm saying and will act or respond accordingly.

I've been putting you to bed at night for the past couple weeks because you won't fall asleep with mom anymore. Because of this we've formed a pretty good routine of reading books and learning more signs for things. Over the past few days you've learned Giraffe and Gorilla (which is hilarious to watch you do as you bang your chest). You try to turn the pages really fast so you can do the next sign it seems.

After 3-4 books, I'll turn down the lights and try to sing you "hand, hand, fingers thumb" or just "twinkle, twinkle, little star" and try to get you to fall asleep without being rocked. It works more times than not, but some nights regardless of how tired you are you still fight it and roll around and kick but you seem to relax immediately if I pick you up and rock you. thank you! :)

This past weekend you let Eleanor tie you up in scarves. It was pretty funny, and you really enjoyed it as well. Here are a few pics. You two really do play well together often. Sometimes you annoy her and destroy her buildings, but mostly you guys do well together.

Love you big guy!

Your love for the upside down world

You crack me up with your silly almost 18-month antics!

Tossing your head and sometimes your whole body backward because you love the feeling of being upside down.

You also love to stand on my legs or on my belly or even on the 4-wheeler or edge of the couch and practice your balance. I must say you're pretty good at it, too!

You are showing great acceptance and maybe even enjoy being in the water.  Dad has been taking you to swim lessons for a couple of sessions now and you'll dip under without much fuss.  Hooray!

We also play a game in the car every day after we drop Eleanor at school which you ask me "Eleanor?" and point and we talk about Eleanor not being in the trees or in the house (as we pass them on the way home).  I say, noooo... Eleanor is at school.  I'm glad I get to spend time with you independent of Eleanor.

I miss her while she is at school, too - but I feel so lucky to get to stay at home and be just your mom, too.

Blowing us over has been a new thing you find hysterical, we do, too!

Love you dude!

Maaaa vs Daaa

Hey Emmett,

Defying the typical path, you seem to have found it easier to call me maaaa, instead of daa or da da. It took me a while to figure out you were actually calling for me sometimes, but now that I know it's fine. However, that hasn't stopped me from trying to teach you da da each time you say maaaa (yes, you say it loud and long - it's cute!). However, the past couple days you seem to be catching on to the da da thing and this morning while I was in the bathroom showering and you were hanging with your mom and sister in our bed, I heard "da. da." and I was like "did he say da da?" and they all said yep and you said it again and I said, "I'm in the bathroom" and you came running into the bathroom. VERY AWESOME! Made my heart so warm.

Thanks little guy for being such an amazing addition to our lives. You fill me with joy every day and I look forward to the many many moments like this we will share together throughout our lives.

Love you!
